The Contour Pendant

The Contour is defined by its sweeping, asymmetrical line. Rather than a traditional symmetrical setting, Stoney designed the solid gold or platinum to flow like a single wave, forming both the bail and the cradle for the sapphire in one continuous, organic arc.

The stone is held securely by three subtle claws that emerge naturally from the curve of the metal. This open, tension-style architecture leaves the side profile of the sapphire completely exposed, allowing natural light to flood the pavilion and maximise the brilliance of the 'Open Blue' stone.

Achieving this fluid shape requires meticulous bench work. The curves must be perfectly balanced so the pendant hangs correctly on the chain, and the interior sweep must be hand-burnished by Stoney to a mirror finish to reflect light back into the stone.
