The Crown Studs

The Crown Studs draw their name from Stoney's intricately pierced, multi-tiered basket that cradles the gemstone. Unlike a standard closed bezel or simple prong setting, this sweeping scalloped wirework mimics the arches of a regal crown, lifting the round sapphire high off the earlobe.

By exposing the pavilion (the underside of the stone) to ambient light from all sides, the crown setting dramatically amplifies internal refraction. Light enters from below and bounces back through the brilliant-cut face of the 5mm Round Sapphire, creating what we call 'crown-fire' a sustained radiance even in low light.

Every curve of the six-prong gallery is hand-polished to a mirror finish. The claws curve fluidly upward to clasp the stone, rounded off expertly so no sharp metal contacts the skin.
